The personal effects of former Navy Chief Admiral Oscar Stanley Dawson, who passed away recently, will be displayed at the Naval Maritime Museum in Fort Kochi. On Wednesday, the Southern Naval Command received the personal effects of late Admiral Dawson in deference to his wishes that the items be handed over to the Indian Navy after his death.

The Admiral who passed away in October 2011 at Bengaluru had willed that his personal effects be handed over to the Indian Navy which he served for over four decades. The items were accepted by Captain G S Oberoi, Commanding Officer of INS Dronacharya from Commander V K Janardhanan, Station Commander of Navy at Bengaluru. The items accepted by the Southern Naval Command include one Beretta 9 mm pistol and another pistol gifted by General Djourvav of Bulgaria, Service Medals and Cap.

Commander Janardhanan said that the third pistol gifted to late Admiral Dawson by Admiral Gorshkov of erstwhile USSR will be handed over to INS Vikramaditya on its arrival in India. Captain Oberoi said that the personal effects of the former Navy Chief would be displayed in the Naval Maritime Museum here.

It was during his tenure as the Flag Officer Commanding in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, at Kochi, from March 1979 to February 1982, that the site for the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala was identified.
