New Delhi: A balloon-like object was spotted moving towards the Delhi airport on Wednesday evening prompting police to alert the Air Force and other agencies.
This comes a day after a similar object was shot down by an IAF jet over Barmer after it crossed the border and intruded into Indian airspace.
The suspicious object was spotted by a resident of Gurgaon who immediately called up the police around 5.05 pm
Police then immediately alerted the Indian Air Force and air traffic control at the Indira Gandhi International airport.
None of the flights were affected because of the alert. A search is on to determine what the object is.
Security agencies were trying to spot the balloon which was first witnessed over Gurgaon moving towards the area which has the IGI airport and an IAF station.
On Tuesday, an IAF Sukhoi 30 scrambled as soon as an alert was sounded and brought the balloon-like object down over Barmer.
IAF has not divulged the nature of that object though sources said it may have been a meteorological balloon. Why it strayed into a no-fly zone also remains a mystery.
