KOCHI: Director Siddique Chendamangaloor’s new film on education tells the story of a young girl Reema, who is forced to join an English medium school. Reema finds it hard to adapt to her new syllabus. Moreover her interest in Malayalam poems and writings start taking a back seat against the exacting schedules. The director says he has been researching thoroughly on the different education systems adopted in Kerala, “This movie is my attempt to elevate the status of the Malayalam language which that has been getting sidelining for long.”Siddique though says that his motive is not to put down English medium schools. “I want to focus on other aspects, like parents’ inability to understand the academic burden their children face. I also want people to think about the disaster awaiting us in a scenario where everyone wishes their wards to be doctors or engineers.”This being a serious subject, it was not easy to find a producer. “When we approached mainstream artists from the industry, they asked us to rewrite the whole script, which would have affected the storyline." Malavika, known for her performance in ‘Karuthapakshikal’, essays the character of Reema. Shankar, Akash Roshan, Nilambur Ayisha, Banna, Sangeetha Rajendran are the other actors in the film.
