New Delhi: The verdict on the vexed Ayodhya issue – expected this year – has already started creating ripples in religious circles.
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has ruled out any further talks with Hindu organisations for a solution to the issue, clarifying they will accept the court verdict irrespective of whose favour it went in.
The board's assistant secretary Abdur Rahim Qurashi told journalists in Chennai that Muslims felt “let down” after two rounds of discussions with Hindu leaders for an out-of-court settlement to the issue.
"Evidence from Muslims and Hindus have been presented in court and only the Archaelogical Survey of India should be examined about the excavation it carried out. Under these circumstances, we do not see any scope or logic in further negotiations. We will abide by the final verdict of the court," he was quoted by PTI as saying.
The board has raised many objections against Uttar Pradesh government's plans on the site. Among them are:
- To erect a bulletproof structure around the site.
- To make the 'makeshift' temple built there airconditioned.
- To shift Muslims residing around the Babri Masjid.
The board, in a resolution, said all parties engaged in the dispute, including the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government, should comply with the Supreme Court's order to maintain status quo in and around the Masjid.
The board also demanded that UP government transfer all cases regarding the demolition issue to a Lucknow court, and said that the 'inordinate delay' in the proceedings of CBI cases was condemnable.
