Chittagong: Muttiah Muralitharan took six wickets for 54 to bowl Bangladesh out for 181 in their second innings on Wednesday on the third day of the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka.
With the latest haul Muralitharan, who also took 3-87 in Bangladesh's first innings, crossed a world first 1,000 wicket milestone in international cricket, including both Test and One-Dayers.
He now has 1004 wickets from 100 tests (593) and 270 One-Day internationals (411). Dilhara Fernando made an early breakthrough Wednesday dismissing both Bangladesh opening batsmen as the home team foundered at 104 for four at tea.
Fernando dismissed Nafees Iqbal for six runs and trapped Javed Omar lbw for 31 as Bangladesh got off to a disastrous start to its second innings.
Earlier, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 338 before lunch, taking a slim, 19-run first innings lead over Bangladesh's total of 319. Michael van Dort (6) and Upul Tharanga (19) were batting at the crease in Sri Lanka's second innings when play was stopped due to poor light with 7.2 overs remaining.
Sri Lanka need 138 runs from 10 wickets to win.
