Would you hand in a lost wallet or would you keep it? According to the results of a new Readers' Digest experiment, Mumbai is the world's second-most honest city whereas more people are likely to hand in a wallet in Helsinki in Finland than in any other city in the world. Nine out of 12 wallets were returned to their owners in Mumbai, whereas eleven out of 12 wallets were returned in Helsinki.
As part of the experiment Readers' Digest dropped 12 wallets in 16 selected cities around the world in an attempt to find out how many people will hand over the wallets. Each wallet had a cellphone number, a family photo, coupons, and business cards, plus the equivalent of $50. A total of 192 wallets were dropped.
Budapest in Hungary and New York City in the USA share the third place. Eight wallets were returned out of 12 in both the respective cities. Meanwhile, in Russia's Moscow city and Netherlands's Amsterdam city seven wallets out of 12 were returned. Portugal's Lisbon city ranked lowest, only one out 12 wallets was returned to its owners.
