Mumbai robber shot dead in encounter
Police shot dead a member of the Umesh Upadhyay gang, suspected of the Rs 45 lakh robbery at a bank in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Mumbai police shot dead Ramesh Prajapati, a member of the Umesh Upadhyay gang late on Tuesday night.

The gang is suspected to have been behind the Rs 45 lakh robbery at a bank in Ghatkopar last Thursday.

The encounter took place at the Western Express Highway, Borivili. Prajapati had 19 cases against him.

The encounter was led by top Anti-Robbery Squad Chief, Inspector Vijay Salaskar. In fact Daya Nayak has accused Salaskar of being responsible for his plight.

The team on learning that Raju Marwadi was holed up at a place in Borivali reached the place and asked him to surrender.

In another incident, Aslam Sheikh, another alleged robber, was shot dead by a special team of Mumbai police at suburban Juhu.

A team constituted by Additional Police Commissioner (west) Bipin Bihari, to bus robbery incidents, came across Sheikh at Juhu, police said. He was shot dead when he too opened fire at the police party, they added.

In both the cases, two sophisticated imported firearms were recovered from the deceased criminals, police added.
