Mumbai: The Mumbai Sessions Court has convicted all four accused in the Keenan-Reuben murder case. The four convicts -- Jitendra Rana, Sunil Bodh, Satish Dulhaj and Dipak Tival -- have been given life imprisonment for the murder of the two youngsters.
On October 20, 2011, Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez were stabbed outside Amboli Bar and Kitchen in Mumbai’s suburb of Andheri West when they confronted a group of men who tried to molest their female friends.
While Keenan died on the same day, Reuben was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries 10 days later. The incident sparked mass outrage and then the Maharashtra Government ordered a high-level probe.
Before the court pronounced the judgement, Rana pleaded in court for lenience, citing he has a family to support. "I have a family and a child. I have never done anything like this before," he said on Thursday.
The state government had in 2012 shifted the case to a fast-track court, but the case dragged on for four years.
