New Delhi: The Tis Hazari court in New Delhi on Friday gave the custody of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist and 26/11 Mumbai attacks handler Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal to the Maharashtra anti-terror squad (ATS). Apart from 26/11 Mumbai attack case, the ATS will investigate the alleged role of Jundal in Aurangabad arms drop case, Nashik police academy case and Pune's German Bakery blast case.
No time frame has been fixed to probe Jundal's role in the four cases, but after investigation he needs to be brought back to Tihar Jail in Delhi.
If needed, Jundal may be handed over to other agencies like National Investigation Agency (NIA), which are also investigating various terror related cases.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police asked for 14-day extension of his custody, but it was denied by the court.
The police said he was instrumental in training the 10 LeT terrorists who attacked different sites on November 26, 2008 in Mumbai, and was also present in the control room in Karachi along with top Lashkar terrorists Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and the officials of Pakistani military intelligence, the ISI.
Investigators have also seized Jundal's Pakistani passport and ID card, which show his residence as Muridke near Lahore and his name as Riyasat Ali.
