CHENNAI: The daughters of Fazila Bi see a ray of hope in saving their 62-year-old mother from the gallows as they said that they received a call from Abdur Rahman, Lok Sabha MP, who told the family members that he had spoken with the external affairs minister on the issue. On the day, Express published a story on Fazila Bi’s family’s attempt to save her from death row in Malaysia, the family members claimed that they got a phone call from the MP, who said that he had taken up the issue with the External Affairs Minister S M Krishna. “We met the MP through some contacts in our community on Sunday before making the complaint. He had seen our issue that was published in the newspaper. He called us and said he had spoken with S M Krishna on the issue and the minister had assured help. We are now hopeful that we can bring our mother back,” said Noorjehan, eldest daughter of Fazila Bi.To recall the story of Fazila Bi, the 62-year-old had gone to Malaysia for a job in 2009, when she was held at the airport for possessing Ketamine, a contraband. She was later given death sentence. Her family in Pattur Mangadu here has been making attempts to save the woman.Though they are hopeful after receiving a call from an MP, they also got a threat call from the travel agent from Triplicane who had sent Fazila Bi to Malaysia. Noorjehan claimed that the agent had called her and threatened her to give back the letter he had given them in 2009, days after Fazila was arrested in Malaysia. The letter promised a compensation of `4 lakh for the family. “It only means that it was his fault and he tried to cover it up by giving us money. Now, after the issue came to light, he is threatening us to give the letter back as it is the only evidence. He is threatening that we would face dire consequences if we don’t return the original copy of the letter he wrote to us,” said Noorjehan.
