New doctors will be recruited in Uttar Pradesh soon to strengthen state-run medical services and ensure availability of expertise at health centres.

"A proposal for recruitment of 5,500 doctors has already been sent to the UP Public Service Commission besides there is also a proposal to directly recruit physicians by inviting applications," Minister for Medical, Health and Family Welfare Ahmad Hasan said on Friday.

The minister said that vacant posts of paramedical staff, nurses, midwives among others will also be filled up soon. Hasan also said that for ensuring availability of physicians at hospitals and health centers, directives have been issued to send a comprehensive report of the patients seen or operated by them on a daily basis to the governing authority on fifth of every month. This would be forwarded to the Director General by the 10th of every month.

The minister said that a government order to this effect has been issued on July 4, 2013. Hasan regretted that doctors were not maintaining OPD registers or daily diaries and it was seen that senior officials were abstaining from duty in an illegal manner for a long period of time, but this was not being brought to the notice of higher authorities.

Doctors employed on contract under the NRHM, working in various medical centers, primary health centers, additional primary health centers, district hospitals and other state-level board would be asked to fill up their diaries on daily basis as per the format.

Hasan warned that disciplinary action would be taken against those who are found making wrong entries. He also said that failure to provide information of the works done by doctors on a regular basis in time could result in withholding of their salaries for the next month.
