NEW DELHI: A pall of gloom on Wednesday descended upon DMK MP Kanimozhi’s mother Rajathi Ammal, her relatives and supporters with the Delhi High Court rejecting her bail plea in the 2G spectrum allocation case.Soon after Justice Ajit Bharihoke announced his ruling, Kanimozhi’s mother and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi’s wife Rajathi Ammal broke down into tears and rushed out of the courtroom.DMK Parliamentary Party leader T R Baalu, who too had come to the court hoping that his party supremo’s daughter would get bail, followed her. He sought to console the hapless mother, telling her that all is not lost and they can still move the Supreme Court and hope for the best. As Baalu consoled his leader’s wife, dozens of DMK activists stood by them and appeared crest-fallen. The occasion of pronouncement of high court’s order on Kanimozhi’s bail plea was, however, marked by the absence of her husband Aravindan and minor son, who were present earlier during the proceedings at the trial court. Justice Bharihoke rejected Kanimozhi’s bail plea on grounds of her strong “political and financial clouts” and agreeing with the CBI’s contention that if enlarged on bail, she might influence witnesses.“Considering the financial and political clout of the petitioner, a possibility cannot be ruled out that if the petitioners are freed at this stage, they would interfere with the investigation or try to influence the witnesses,” Justice Bharihoke said.
