HONGADAHALLA(HASSAN): A three-member official team from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) on Friday visited the site of the Maruti mini hydel power plant near Hongadahalla in Sakleshpur taluk, which has of late been in the centre of a controversy over its alleged violations.The team comprising Chief Forest Conservators Somashekar and Vijayakumar Gogi and Deputy Conservator of Forest Murali visited the project site located between the reserve forests of Kaginahare and Kanchanakumari in Hongadahalla gram panchayat. They collected information about the topography of the region and endangered wildlife species from Hassan Conservator of Forest Nagaraj, Range Forest Officer Chandraprabha and Project Manager of the hydel project Chamaraj.The team refused to divulge the purpose of their visit. “We cannot reveal anything now... We would submit the report by February 23, 2012,” Somashekar said.State Wildlife Board member Sanjay Gubbi alleged that the plant has completely violated Forest Conservation and Karnataka Forest Acts. The company has also been alleged of not following required terms and conditions before project execution; a criminal case has been filed against project MD.
