New Delhi: With a little more than a week to go, beauties from across the world are already scrubbing and polishing up for the Miss Universe 2011 pageant to be held in Brazil’s Sao Paolo. India’s hopes are pinned on 27-year-old dusky Vasuki Sunkavalli from Hyderabad.
Sunkavalli will be representing India at the pageant in Brazil this year. Sunkavalli is a lawyer by profession. She was crowned I Am She – Miss Universe India on July 15, 2011 in Mumbai. Vasuki was crowned by Ushoshi Sengupta at the Miss India contest.
She is also a state level basketball player and a trained dancer.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the pageant that has always picked out the most beautiful of women, matching brains with poise and grace.
This year, the event will be held at the Credicard Hall, in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011. Miss Universe 2010 - Ximena Navarrete of Mexico will be passing her crown on to the next beauty.
The event will witness the participation of contestants from 89 countries surpassing the previous record of 86 participants – as witnessed in 2006.
Portugal, Chile, St Lucia, Turks and Caicos, Cayman Islands, Montenegro, Estonia and Vietnam are making a come back to the pageant after a no-show for 2 or more years in come cases.
Zambia and Norway have apparently withdrawn from the pageant say media reports.
Former Miss Universe Amelia Vega, who in 2003 became the first Dominican to win that title, will be part of the judging panel for the contest said a media report.
