A mine lessee, who was allegedly targeted by an agitated mob, on Thursday alleged that those who destroyed his mine's vehicles and machinery were trying to extort money from him. The lease of the mine was transfered to one Sunil Tank in October last year.
Despite having all legal documents and permission, locals were creating trouble and opposing mining, Tank said, adding, "some miscreants misguided local people against mining and were trying to extract money." A mob went on a rampage in the mine on a hillock near Ugariawas village on Tuesday and also attacked a police team which was there to ensure smooth mining operations. Seven policemen including a DSP were injured in the clash.
Tank, also met state Industry minister Rajendra Pareek demanding arrest of the culprits. Police said, locals were opposing mining activities in the area citing threat to a religious structure on the hillock and ecology and an investigation was on into the matter.
