Tamil Nadu: The Mettur Court in Tamil Nadu has accepted film actor Kushboo?s bail petition and surrender application.
Kushboo was granted bail after paying Rs 5000 surety.
Kushboo, against whom a non-bailable warrant was issued in November after she did not appear in court for a defamation case against her, surrendered at the Mettur court on Tuesday.
The Madras High Court is expected to rule on the stay order on Kushboo?s arrest on Wednesday.
If the High Court cancels that order, the actor could be arrested.
Kushboo had landed herself in a soup with the PMK and Tamil protection groups after she made public, her views on premarital sex.
Public opinion
However Kushboo, who had to seek legal refuge in the High Court after pro-PMK lawyers filed 27 defamation cases against her COMMA? has popular public support on her side.
Sales Manager, Vinod Motwani, said, "Staying in India and being an Indian she shouldn't have done that. It doesn't go with the Indian culture at all."
Journalist, Aditi Sengupta, added, "It's a free country and Kushboo has the right to say whatever she wants."
Advertising executive, Vishwesh Krishnamoorty said, "The issue has been completely blown out of proportion. I don't think it's a big deal at all. In fact, I completely side with her."
Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi?s daughter and a poet COMMA? stated that such incidents are a threat to freedom of expression.
She and Finance Minister P Chidambaram?s son have started a web site called Karuthu, which means opinion in Tamil.
However there are others who feel that hurting any one culture?s sentiments deserve to be protested against.
Banker, Yash Pinge said, "If someone insults the feelings and beliefs of any Indian culture, they should be held responsible for it."
But people like Yash Pinge are in the minority. Most people feel that it may now be time for Tamil Nadu?s political parties to listen to the voice of the next generation.
