The annual budget of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar was presented on the second day of the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam here, on Friday.
Mar Thoma Church lay trustee Varghese Mammen presented the budget of Rs 78 crore at the Prathinidhi Mandalam. The budget announced that the Mar Thoma Church will start a new professional college.
The Mar Thoma Church currently runs two professional colleges at Ayoor and Perumbavoor.
The budget set aside Rs 10 lakh for meeting initial expenses for commencing the work on the professional college.
A sum of Rs 2 crore has been allotted for social welfare schemes involving 200 housing projects for poor people including non-Mar Thomites, where each house costs Rs 1 lakh.
A total of Rs 5 lakh has been allotted as marriage aid for poor women and Rs 2 lakh as relief fund.
According to the budget, A television channel programme unit named ‘Malankara Darshan’ will be initiated soon. A sum of Rs 3 lakh will be allotted as a primary instalment in this regard.
