ROURKELA: Jharkhand Regional Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit has called for a 24-hour bandh in the neighbouring Jharkhand and Maoist-hit border pockets of Sundargarh district. It would be effective from Wednesday night. The bandh call has been given in solidarity with the villagers who are opposing the proposal to set up headquarters of the Indian Reserve Battalion at Khuntpani block in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Besides, the outfit is also against the upcoming visit of Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh and SAIL’s plan to develop small townships at a couple of forested locations under the Manohar police limits in Saranda along the Jharkhand-Orissa border.Maoist spokesperson Samarjee alias Anmol Hembram on Monday night called up a section of the local mediapersons and communicated the shutdown decision. The shutdown would begin on Wednesday night, but security forces on both sides are unlikely to heave a sigh of relief till Friday morning with the past history of violence unleashed by the Maoists during bandhs is anything to go by. The decision understood to have come soon after Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda and Ramesh in Delhi agreed to implement the Saranda Action Plan to develop 56 villages and work for social and economic development of tribals in Saranda areas. The plan envisages a 70-km road to the inaccessible and inhospitable Maoist-infested Karampada, Thalkobad, Tiriliposi and Digha to Kiruburu. Recently, the joint forces of Jharkhand and Orissa also carried out ‘Area Domination Operation’ in Saranda. Meanwhile, reports reaching here said the Jharkhand police on Tuesday entered the Saranda forest again through several points for a combing operation.
