Manual scavenging: HC issues summons to official

BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday issued summons to Secretary of Urban Development Department (UDD) Aravind Vatsava over a PIL seeking to eradicate the heinous practice in the state.A division bench of CJ Vikramjit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna, while hearing a plea filed by People’s Union of Civil Liberty seeking implementation of the Employment of Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines (Prohibition) Act, 1993, said that it may summon the minister concerned if the secretary fails to turn up.It ticked the government for its shoddy presentation of affidavit on the issue.
