THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Time to lick the mangolicious-passion! The round and luscious fruit in ambrosial flavours and appetising sizes is all set to tingle the palates of Trivandrumites with its bitter-sweetness. A National Mango Fest, jointly organised by State Horticulture Mission and Mango Growers’ Association Kerala, will be organised on Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds here from June 16 to June 26. The fest will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan on Thursday. The national-level mango fest shall flash out a colourful ensemble of mangoes of diverse nativities. Familiar ones like the ‘Neelam’, ‘Varikka’, ‘Kalppaadi’, ‘Sindooram’, ‘Chandrakaaran’ and other-state entrants like the ‘Jahanghir’, ‘Daseri’, ‘Salem’ and ‘Banglora’ will be exhibited.“The jackfruit fest organised by us yielded excellent results and we are extremely excited about organising the mango fest that would showcase various brands of mangoes hailing from a number of places in Kerala and the neighbouring states. We have made it a point not to bring in mangoes exposed to dangerous fertilizers like endosulfan and Calcium Carbonate. We have asked Dr Nazeema Biwi fromVellayani Agricultural College to conduct random sampling tests and ensure that the mangoes are free of such malicious contents at levels harmful to human beings” said K Prathapan, Director, State Horticulture Mission. The fest primarily aims at tapping the unlimited possibilities of mango farming and introducing farmers to state-of-the-art technologies that span from seed development to marketing. In fact, an exhibition featuring the advantages of mechanisation in all aspects of mango farming, right from seeding to marketing, will also be part of the fest. Farmers will also be given information about marketing facilities available.
