Mahashivratri celebrated across India, lakhs take bath in Ganga

New Delhi: The festival of Mahashivratri is being celebrated across the country. Temples are full of devotees on the occassion of Mahashivratri since early Thursday.

On this auspicious occasion, devotees from different part of the country gather at Allahabad and Varanasi to take bath in the Ganga as they believe that it will wash away their sins.

Mahashivratri is celebrated on the night of the 14th day of Krishna Paksha of Falgun as per the Hindu calendar.

On this auspicious occasion, devotees keep fast to please Lord Shiva and seek his blessing. It is believed that Shiva married Parvati on this day.
