Maharashtra: Woman befriends man through Facebook, robs him of Rs 3.16 lakh
Police said they have recovered the booty from the accused, who has been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code.

Thane: A 25-year-old woman, along with her two accomplices, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly befriending an engineer through the social networking site and robbing him of cash and jewellery collectively worth Rs 3.16 lakh, police said.

The accused are identified as Gauri Shetty, Sohail alias Sunny Hassan Shaikh and Sahil Hassan Sayyed (both 29), said senior inspector of crime branch Prakash Ghawne. He said Gauri allegedly befriended the victim Dileep Kumar Jaiswal (45) through Facebook and visited his place on July 31.

"She had demanded Rs 5,000 from Jaiswal as assistance but was given Rs 8,000. Sohail and Sahil had barged into Jaiswal's flat located in Hiranandani locality and looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 3.16 lakh at knifepoint," he said.

Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team laid a trap near a mall in suburban Malad and apprehended the trio. Police also recovered the stolen booty from them, he said, adding that they were booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code.
