Maharashtra government bans Maggi, says action will be taken against anyone who sells it
Nestle has moved court against the Uttarakhand government's three-month ban on Maggi. The court has asked the state government to reply within 15 days.

Mumbai: Even as Nestle has ordered to take Maggi off the shelves in India, Maharashtra has joined the list of states to ban the noodles. Earlier, at least 10 other states including Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Bihar have already put a temporary ban on Maggi.

Making the announcement, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Girish Bapat said "three of the six samples collected from places including Pune, Kolhapur and Aurangabad were found to contain lead above the permissible limit. The ban on Maggi will be in force from June 6 and action will be taken against anyone found selling it."

This action comes even after the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Maggi noodles samples it tested were found to contain lead within permissible limits. Laboratory reports of nine samples collected from Mumbai, Thane and Sangli showed lead content ranging from .04 to 1.48 parts per million while the permissible level is 2.5 parts per million.

Meanwhile, Nestle has moved court against the Uttarakhand government's three-month ban on Maggi. The court has asked the state government to reply within 15 days.
