New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam on Wednesday described BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's death as a personal loss and said the nation has lost a young political leader with great potential.
"He was a young leader wellknown for his 'can do it' approach," Dr Kalam said.
"I had closely known Shri Mahajan and worked with him when he was a Union Minister. I will always remember my personal interactions and close associations with him. I feel a sense of personal loss in his passing away," the President said in a message.
Dr Kalam has also conveyed his condolences to other members of the family.
Meanwhile, the Congress on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the death of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, party spokesperson Rajiv Shukla said.
Shukla said that Mahajan was one of the most competent ministers, a very good organiser and an able politician who played an important role in Indian politics.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the entire party shared the grief of the family of the late leader, Shukla added.
He especially eulogised Mahajan's performance as the parliamentary affairs minister.
A delegation from the party would be attending the BJP leader’s funeral, Shukla said.
