MANGALORE: A ban against the centuries-old made-made snana is improper, Udupi mutt’s senior pontiff Vishweshateertha swamiji stressed on Tuesday. Interacting with media persons at the sidelines of programme in Mangalore, he said, “The sentiments of the devotees should be respected. For centuries the ritual has been practiced and instead of a sudden ban, the opinions of devotees should be collected before taking any drastic steps. A healthy debate on the ritual is welcome, he said.Minister for Endowment Dr V S Acharya expressed his reservations on imposing a ban and interfering with the rituals of the temple.“Such rituals practiced without any force should be allowed to continue. Banning these practices will not augur well for a healthy society where people’s believes are strong, he stressed.
