CHENNAI: The suburban police arrested a seven-member gang for reportedly attacking a 40-year-old lorry driver at Sathangadu police limits on Monday. Police began investigation after they found Ezhilarasan, a lorry driver from Kargil Nagar, Thiruvottriyur, with cut injuries lying on the road near Manali Highway on Sunday night. They found that the driver, who was earlier an associate of notorious rowdy Vellai Ravi, was reportedly attacked by a gang led by Ramesh from Tondiarpet. On Monday morning, police arrested the gang including Ramesh from their hiding at Tsunami Kudiruppu, Tondiarpet. Further investigations revealed that Ezhilarasan was arrested 15 years ago by RK Nagar police reportedly after he attacked Ramesh’s father Rajagopal. Rajagopal had then warned Ezhilarasan as he was having an affair with the former’s wife Valarmathi. The lorry driver had also thrown acid on Valarmathi, who lodged complaint with the police after her husband was attacked. Despite moving to Thiruvottriyur after the incident, the driver had often come back to Tondiarpet and Ramesh had warned him not to get anywhere near his house or meet his mother.
