The Madras High Court has directed the Anna University Registrar and TN Engineering Admissions secretary to submit a tentative list of 80 eligible candidates who would have otherwise got admission to BArch course for 2012-13 if all the 80 seats were filled up through single window counselling without any reservation in any categories. Twenty seats had now been filled up for the course.
When a contempt petition from Y Vandana of T Nagar to punish the Registrar and the Secretary for not complying with earlier orders of this court came up before Justice V Ramasubramanian on Monday, the respondents filed their counters. They submitted that even if the additional seats were filled up, the petitioner (Vandana), belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community, might not stand a chance as she had secured a low cut-off mark.
The judge said that if the name of the petitioner would find a place in the list of 80 candidates so prepared, she would be entitled to admission for the current academic year.
The list of 80 candidates, who would otherwise had secured admission if single window system alone had been followed, should be prepared, the judge said and adjourned the matter till October 5.
