Coimbatore: A letter stating that bombs would explode in ten places in the city during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 has been received by a police station in Coimbatore.

The threat letter was purportedly written by one Rajesh, who claimed to be a Maoist sympathiser, and was received on Thursday night at Ramanathapuram police station.

It asked the police to take measures to prevent the explosions, police said today.

The Tamil Nadu Q Branch Police have arrested five Maoists recently on the outskirts and three of them are lodged in Central jail Coimbatore.

Two others -- a couple Roopesh and Shyna -- have been taken to Kerala and lodged in a jail there in connection with some cases against them in the state.
