SAMBALPUR: Intensifying the stir for a permanent bench of the High Court in western Orissa, Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) on Thursday resorted to a daylong blockade paralysing traffic on NH53 connecting the busy KolkataMumbai route besides the State Highway 10 and NH55.
The restriction was only for heavy and commercial vehicles, while buses, cars and twowheelers were allowed passage. The blockade saw long line of trucks stranded on the highway even as police stood guard to prevent any untoward incident. SDBA members picketed at Ainthapali, Sindurpank and Dhanupali to prevent plying of commercial vehicles.

It has been over two years since the Pal Commission was constituted by the State Government to look into the demand for a permanent bench of the High Court in the region. There has been no sight of the report with the commission being given an extension year after year.

SDBA president Pramod Rath said the blockade should act as an eyeopener to the Government. If it still decides to close its eyes to the demand, the SDBA may go for an indefinite economic blockade, he added.
