The Kumara Rajah M A M Muthiah Chettiar Birthday Commemoration Award for 2012 was presented to Nocome Trust’s Navakiraha Orphange Care Home located in Karaikal on Thursday here in Chennai.
Keeping with the 84th birthday celebrations of Kumara Rajah MAM Muthiah Chettiar, this award which comes with a citation and a prize money of Rs 2 lakh, was presented by Judge B Rajendran, Madras High Court to P Sakthivel, Founder of Nocome Trust.
P Sakthivel who had a very humble beginning, was motivated by his personal struggles to start the Trust in 1999, for destitute and orphaned children. Today the trust, which functions from a rented building in Karaikal, has 158 children and 33 mentally challenged people
Dr MAM Ramaswamy, Pro-Chancellor of Annamalai University and patron of the trust, while addressing the traced out the illustrious career of his brother Kumara Rajah M A M Muthiah Chettiar. He said, “Whatever initiative he took up, he completely dedicated himself to it. In 1957, when he served as the Sheriff of Madras, he took it upon himself to beautify the city. Though we lost him at an early age, he will always alive in our memories.”
He also congratulated the award winner, and asked the Founder of Nocome Trust to continue their good work.
