Apparently miffed over denial of ticket for Dhenkanal Lok Sabha seat, veteran Congress leader KP Singhdeo may quit the party.

"My nephew KV Singhdeo is BJP state president. There is nothing unusual if I call him up for talks. Similarly, my other nephew Kalikesh Singhdeo is a BJD MP. I will take a decision after consulting my family members," the Singhdeo Senior, who represented Dhenkanal in Lok Sabha for six times, said.

Singhdeo was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1967 representing the Swatantra Party.

Stating that he had been with Congress for 37 years, Singhdeo said he need to perform his responsibility towards those who were associated with him for so many years. In a related development, BJP's state chief KV Singhdeo hinted that his party would not hesitate to welcome K P Singhdeo if he decides to join them.

"We need to strengthen the party. We will welcome if KP Singhdeo decides to join us," the BJP's state President said.

Singhdeo was the President of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) when the party went to polls in 2009. The party won 27 assembly segments and six Lok Sabha seats when KP Singhdeo was the OPCC chief.
