Several people, including the victim’s parents and her colleagues could just be a scapegoat to aid an alleged cover-up.

The relatives and neighbours of Sanjay Roy, the arrested accused in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee PG doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, have claimed several facts as the social media is loaded with facts, hearsay and half-truths about the accused.

According to his mother, Roy has been trapped in the case while his mother-in-law has said that he should be hanged for committing the horrendous crime. Some reports said that Roy married four times, others mentioned he was addicted to porn and often visited prostitutes.

CCTV footage and a bluetooth device found near the medic’s body resulted in the arrest of Roy, who was seen entering the seminar hall of the college where the body was found.

Several people, including the victim’s parents and her colleagues could just be a scapegoat to aid an alleged cover-up.

My son has been framed, says Sanjay’s mother

The mother of Roy has claimed that her son is harmless and indicated that someone has trapped him. In an interview with India Today, she said the incident could have been prevented had she been more strict with him.

“If I had been more strict, then this would not have happened. His father was very strict, but he used to worship him. With my husband’s death, everything has gone wrong, my beautiful family is only a memory now,” she told the news outlet.

“I don’t know who influenced him to do this… If someone has framed him, then that person will be punished,” she added.

Meanwhile, his elder sister has said that he should served with the strictest punishment if he is found guilty. “As a sister, I don’t think Roy could commit such a crime. But I am watching news too. Even I don’t know. I am in shock. I can’t understand. But if he has done this, he should be punished as per law,” NDTV quoted his sister as saying.

Sanjay was a ‘nasty guy’, say neighbours

According to several women, living in Sanjay’s neighbourhood in Bhabanipur, the 33-year-old man was not a good guy. As reported by NDTV, the women said that Roy was a “nasty guy”. “He ogled at women, we would shut our doors,” a woman said to the news outlet.

According to CBI sources, Roy visited a red-light area before allegedly committing the horrific crime.

Police have alleged that he was married at least four times and was a known “womaniser”.

Sanjay should be hanged for his crime, says his mother-in-law

Earlier, Roy’s mother-in-law had claimed that he used to beat his ex-wife. She had also alleged that Sanjay “bashed” his 3-month-pregnant wife and caused a miscarriage. She had demanded that Roy be “hanged” for his crime.

“My relations with him were very tense,” she said. “Initially, everything was good for six months. When she (her daughter) was three months pregnant, he caused a miscarriage. He thrashed her, and a police complaint was registered for the same. Following this, my daughter continued being ill, I bore all her expenses for medicines,” the mother-in-law told news agency ANI.

“Sanjay was not good. Hang him or do whatever you want with him. I won’t speak about the crime. He could not have done it alone. He can’t do it alone,” she added.

Roy appears to be a ‘sexual pervert’, say CBI sources

According to sources in the CBI which is probing the incident, revealed that Roy appears to be a “sexual pervert” who has shown no remorse during his questioning. A Kolkata Police team took Roy into custody on August 10, a day after the body of the trainee doctor was found in a seminar hall on the fourth floor of the hospital. During the preliminary police probe, porn was found in his phone. His mother said Roy became addicted to alcohol after his first wife passed away due to cancer.

What’s the case?

The case pertains to the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Amid the ongoing protests, some miscreants entered the premises of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 14 and vandalised portions of the medical facility, where the body of the victim was found. The Calcutta High Court on August 13 had an order to transfer the probe from Kolkata Police to the CBI.

The Kolkata case has shaken the country, brought the functioning of RG Kar hospital under scrutiny, led to the ouster of its principal, and triggered massive protests by the medical fraternity’s students and civil society.
