Kochi: Bringing to an end the six-year-old controversial episode, the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court on Tuesday found Shobha John and eight others guilty in the blackmailing of former Sabarimala Thantri Kandararu Mohanaru. The sentence will be pronounced on Wednesday. The prosecution had submitted that the accused had hatched a conspiracy and threatened the Thantri with a gun in a flat in Kochi and grabbed his ornaments on July 23, 2006.
Sessions Judge E C Harigovindan gave a clean chit to Mohanaru, despite widespread rumours against him in the initial stage of the case. “It is crystal clear that Mohanaru went to the flat to pick up a caretaker for his house and not for prostitution,” the court held.
The court found that the first accused Shobha John, third accused Anil Kumar and fourth accused Bechu Rehman had committed offences punishable under Section 120 B. Others found guilty are Abdul Sahad, Abdul Sathar, Majeed, Shereef alias Umbu, Asees and Biji Peter.
