New Delhi: Making a foray into the Indian market, Kobo launched four new devices, including three e-book readers and one Android tablet that is said to be optimised and designed for e-reading. These devices include Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo, Kobo Aura HD e-readers and the Kobo Arc Android tablet.
Kobo devices are available in India starting today through Croma, Crossword, and WHSmith retail stores. All the Kobo devices launched today are WiFi only. Kobo e-readers are said to support all the major e-books formats including mobi and epub.
Priced at Rs 7,999, the Kobo Touch eReader is equipped with an anti-glare 6-inch Pearl E-Ink touchscreen and its battery is claimed to last up to one month.
The front-lit Kobo Glo eReader comes with the adjustable ComfortLight technology to enable people to read anytime - day or night. It also has a 6-inch Pearl E-Ink touchscreen and its battery is also claimed to last for one month. It carries a price tag of Rs 10,999.
The Kobo Aura HD is the most expensive of all. It is priced at Rs 13,999 and has a 6.8-inch Pearl E-Ink touchscreen. The Aura HD also includes built-in front-lit technology and it is touted to have enough juice to last for around 2 months.
The Kobo Arc is a 7-inch Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean), which is claimed to be designed and optimised for e-reading. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and has 16GB of storage. It comes at a price point of Rs 11,999.
Considering the festive season, Kobo announced that the Kobo Arc (regularly priced at Rs 11,999) and Kobo Touch (regularly priced at Rs 7,999) will be available for Rs 11,999 and Rs 6,999, respectively, till November 3.
Kobo says it will initially offer content only in English, but has plans to offer content in other Indian languages in future.
According to the company, readers will have access to Kobo's eBookstore which is claimed to feature nearly 4-million titles across 68 languages including content featuring work from Indian authors like Jhumpa Lahiri, Ramachandra Guha and Sachin Garg to international authors like Dan Brown, John Grisham and Lee Child.
