HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday assured that he would convene a high level meeting on November 18 to discuss and resolve the problems being faced by the fishermen community due to offshore oil and gas exploration by companies like ONGC, GSPC and Reliance Industries Limited.
A fishermen's delegation, led by minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, met Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office this evening and complained that their livelihood was being affected due to drilling operations by the oil companies. Yanam MLA M Krishna Rao and Mummidivaram MLA P Satish Kumar were also among the delegation which met the CM.Following the assurance given by the chief minister, the fishermen postponed their Kakinada collectorate siege programme on November 14. About 10,000 fishermen in 500 boats besieged an offshore rig a couple of days ago.
