CHENNAI: In the third such incident in T Nagar police district in the last six months, a woman was found murdered at her apartment in MGR Nagar on Wednesday. The victim’s ‘thali’ chain was missing from the body.On May 12, two sisters, Jayalakshmi (60) and Kamakshi (55), who were living alone in their house on Kothandaramar Koil Street in West Mambalam, were found strangled and their jewels removed. On October 10, the body of L Parameswari was found with head injuries in her house on Second Street in Bharadeeswarar Colony, Kodambakkam. Three gold chains were missing from her neck. With police clueless, the killers are still at large in both cases. At a recent press meet, police commissioner J K Tripathy claimed that special teams had been assigned for the two cases and there could be “good news” soon, but there appears to be only more bad news. The latest incident comes just two days after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa exhorted the police to ensure that women-related crimes came to nil.Wednesday’s victim, L Ranjitham (38), was alone in her second floor apartment on Jai Balaji Nagar Extension, Nesapakkam. Her husband Loganathan (41), a financier and native of Tirupur, was out on business. The couple had been married for 18 years and had a daughter L Shanmughapriya, a plus one student, sources said.  Loganathan told the police that he usually called his wife around 12.30 pm daily. On Wednesday, however, he made the call at 2.30 pm, but there was no response. So, he came home around 4 pm and found Ranjitham’s body in the bedroom with a cut injury on her neck. He noticed her 10-sovereign ‘thali’ chain missing, while other ornaments were intact. The body was sent for autopsy to the Government Royapettah Hospital.Joint Commissioner (South Zone) K P Shanmugharajeswaran told Express that there appeared to be no signs of struggle and things had not been disturbed in the house. “Around 25 sovereigns of jewellery and cash were intact in the safe. The gold bangles on the victim’s body too were intact,” he said. The police suspect that the killer could have been known to the victim. Forensic experts picked up a few clues like strands of hairs from the scene of crime, which could provide some leads, the JCP said. The murder weapon was not found in the house, he added.
