KOCHI: A Keralite emerged winner at the national level finals of the Mars International Spelling Bee competition held at Thrissur recently. Aran Thomas Eapen of Harisree Vidya Nidhi School, Poonkunnam, Thrissur became the best performer at the national finals. The winners will attend the international finals to be held at Abu Dhabi in January.The three-day championship had more than 2,000 contestants from 22 states. In category Three, Sivani Sachin Nirgudkar (Thakur Public School Maharashtra), Devang Ajith (Hill Blooms School Wayanad) and Kunal Ravi Singh (Scottish High International School Gudgav Haryana).Akshath Malya (Madhusree Kasiben Vrujlal Walia International School, Maharashtra), Sreya Sampath Kumar (CMR National Public School Karnataka) and M Sreevalsan (Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyasramam, Tamil Nadu) became the winners in category five.In the national level, first prize winners will get a scholarship of Rs 50,000. The second and third prize winners will get Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. In addition there are consolation prizes also. The best performer will get a scholarship of Rs 1 lakh.In the international level the best performer will get a scholarship of Rs 10 lakh. Also best performers from each country will get Rs 2 lakh.
