Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala is all set to implement the new liquor policy by Thursday night, there is some air of hope for the bar owners as the Supreme court will consider their case.
The state government had decided on August 21 to close down all bars other than the five star one's in the state. The government also decided to close down 10 percent of the state run Beverages corporation outlets every year.
The aim was to have total prohibition of liquor in the state by the next 10 years. But there have been several criticisms to this move stating that it was a sudden decision and was mainly aimed at scoring brownie points politically.
The bar owners have approached the Supreme court stating that there is discrimination in this new policy as only the bars and the beverages corporation outlets are not closed and also allowing the five star hotels to run bars. Now the wait is to see whether the liquor restriction in the state will be lifted or delayed. As of now the restriction is on the Indian Made foreign liquor not on beer.
The UDF meeting will also be held tomorrow to discuss the liquor issue post noon.
