BHUBANESWAR: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Committee on Wednesday announced that web-based counselling for admission into the technical colleges will begin on July 3 with the commencement of r egistrationby the candidates. To make it easier for the students, not familiar with the online counselling process, the JEE body has introduced a mock counsellingexercise for the first time. This will continue for 10 days. During the mock counselling, candidates will get apreview of the choice filling, final preference lock-in and allotment. The details of the process will be posted on the official website of the JEE body shortly, Vice-Chairman Dr Sitaram Mohapatra said. This time around, the JEE Committee has incorporated features which will prevent attempts by colleges or candidates to block seats. After registering themselves, candidates will be asked to indicate their choices.Once the final choices are indicated, the candidates will be required to visit the nodal centres for verification. Upon completion of the verification process, the candidates will take a printout of the final choice and get a copy countersigned by the nodal centre officer. “This will help seal the choice locking processand there will be no place for manipulation thereafter,” Mohapatra said.Subsequently, when the allotments are published online, the candidate will haveto follow a series of procedures. Mohapatra said the JEE body would give the candidate a chance to remain in JEE system or quit when the allotment is announced. If he or she decides to stay in the JEE system, the candidate will have to deposit a fee of Rs 16,000 along with Rs 30,000 at the nodal centre. Then he/she will be asked to report to the college allotted in seven days. If the candidate fails to report, he/she will forgo the seat and get no refund of the fees deposited. This, Mohapatra said, would thwart any move to block seats.Similarly, a candidate can get an upgradation of allotment only if he/she has reported to the college allocated within the stipulated time. Before the actual admission, only photo copies of the certificates will be accepted,Mohapatra said. The JEE body has also come up with a FrequentlyAsked Questions (FAQs) basing on the problems faced by candidates and they will be hosted on the website soon.Meanwhile, the medical board for physically challenged candidates will beheld from July 1 to 9 at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. This year, 53,936 candidates have qualified for engineering courses.
