CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced upgradation of 775 State-run schools and creation of 10,173 teacher posts in various schools, including those upgraded during 2009. According to a statement from the School Education Department, as many as 710 middle-schools will be upgraded to high schools across the State.These schools will start functioning as full-fledged upgraded schools from next year with the appointment of five graduate teachers per upgraded school, that works out to 3,550 appointments. This, apart from the creation 710 junior assistant posts and an equal number of lab technician posts.A total of `412.65 crore will be spent on procuring equipment and improving infrastructure facilities at a cost of `58.12 lakh per school for all 710 schools.Priority in upgradation will be accorded to schools in remote villages having a high population of Adi-dravidas, Scheduled Tribes, and Minorities.Similarly, the Chief Minister has issued orders for upgradation of middle-school heads posts to high-school heads posts in 831 middle schools that were upgraded to high schools in 2009.Under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan scheme, as many as 6,428 teachers including 3,565 secondary grade and 2,863 graduate teachers would be appointed.This apart, 65 schools would be upgraded with appointment of three graduate teachers per school, totalling 195. These measures would amount to a recurring expense of `325.9 crore every year.
