Patna: A Gorkha Battalion Jawan, who was deployed in Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s security, has been admitted to a hospital in Patna after he allegedly tried to commit suicide using his service rifle.
The incident was reported around 11 pm on Friday when Pujan Guru fired his automatic assault rifle and the bullet hit him in the chest. He was on night duty outside 1 Ane Marg, the chief minister’s residence.
The CM’s security personnel was immediately put on high alert and special cell guards ran towards the gate from where they heard firing. That is when they found Guru lying in a pool of blood and his Self-Loading Rifle (SLF) beside him.
He was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where doctors are trying to retrieve the bullet. His condition is said to be critical.
Patna City Superintendent of Police D Amarkesh told News18 that prima facie it looked like a case of suicide but details would be known once the Jawan is able to record his statement.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar had started to receive Z plus security cover only on Thursday.
