Jawan kills 4 colleagues, himself

Jammu: In a shocking incident, an Army jawan shot dead his four colleagues before killing himself in a fit of rage at Miran Sahib, 20 km from Jammu, on Sunday night.

Satinder Singh, a jawan with the 21 Rajput rifles, reportedly had an argument with his colleagues in the evening. Soon after, he shot at three jawans of his unit and a Subedar major. All four died.

One jawan was also injured in the firing.

Senior officers say that Satinder had been suffering from clinical depression. "Satinder Singh was depressed. He was in the low medical category since June, 2005," South Jammu SP Sheikh Mehmood said.

This is the second time that men from security forces have targeted people in their own unit. A month ago, a CRPF jawan in Srinagar had shot four of his colleagues to death when he was denied permission to go on leave.
