CHENNAI: Janani, a first-year student of MOP Vaishnav College for Women, won the title of Radio City Super Singer of Chennai, an on-air hunt for the singing talent conducted by Radio City FM. Janani competed against five other finalists and won a Rs 1 lakh cash prize. She was adjudged the best singer by jury members — music director Satish Chakravarthy and singer Prashanthini — and the listeners of FM channel at the grand finale held at Citi Centre recently. The six singers — Janani, Ragu, Rohith, Vijay, Krithika and Vijayshree — performed on three different themes such as solo, classical and duet, which tested the contestants’ ability at different levels.Janani sang hits of different genres such as Mayya Mayya from Guru, Hello Mister Edhir Karchi from Iruvar, Madhuraiku Pogadhadi from Azhagiya Thirumagan. Commenting on her performance, music director Satish said Janani had the capability to modulate her voice according to different genres. Singer Prashanthini wished Janani a good future in singing. Radio City RJs Gopida and Shakthi hosted the event and made the event lively with their quirky comments.
