HYDERABAD: Support for TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu came from unexpected quarters on Saturday after a senior Congress leader and minister dismissed Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s allegation that it was Naidu who had granted mining leases to the Obulapuram Mining Company.The Congress leader also said Naidu had no role in Emaar case as well.During an informal chat, the minister, who played a key role in the late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet, strongly disapproved of the argument by YS Jagan, who appeared before the CBI as a witness on Friday.Jagan’s argument on Emaar project was an MoU was finalised when TDP chief Naidu was the chief minister and transfer of mining lease to the OMC too took place during his tenure.“Emaar project was indeed started during the TDP government.But why did Rajasekhara Reddy government fail to expose the irregularities in the project? Why it didn’t stop the project and instead issued a GO changing the MoU and continued the project? Jagan had failed to answer all these questions,” the top Congress leader said.Neither the then Congress government nor the industries minister took up the matter.The then industries minister would also be held responsible for anomalies in Emaar, if any, the minister said.Jagan has suppressed the facts in the OMC case.Gali brothers had used their licence to mine iron ore in unauthorised areas and earned a lot of money.They operated in the name of several benami companies.“As a witness, Jagan should answer all these questions raised by the CBI.Otherwise, people will not believe his words,” he said.He added if the government had not permitted Koneru Prasad to enter into an agreement with Emaar, there would not have been financial misdeeds.
