New Delhi: Elementary education in Delhi is all set to witness a qualitative change from the next academic session as students will soon have access to experts and quality material irrespective of their location.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to install a complete 'Edusat' hub and studio at the Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to promote and spread e-education in the capital.

The engineering college will be linked with over 50 government-affiliated premier engineering and management institutes in the Capital and NCR region to beam educational programmes from the next academic session.

A brainchild of ISRO, Edusat is exclusively meant for educational purposes and students of several states, particularly the southern states, are already reaping its benefits.

"Several students are already availing distance learning facilities in states like Haryana and Karnataka," G Narendera, Secretary of Training and Technical Education (TTE) department told PTI.

He said the project, which was being partly funded by the Centre and the beneficiary state, would usher in radical change in higher education in the capital with thousands of students expected to benefit.

"It would be an interactive session where students can interact with the experts from science, engineering and management background at the teaching end through a voice-link via satellite," Narendra said.

Unlike IGNOU, which beams information as per its syllabus, DCE would network with other premier institutes to formulate course details according to the needs of the students.

Narendra said Edusat would ensure the question and the expert's response can be heard live in the classrooms. The TTE has already identified a few of colleges where Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT) would be set up to receive the feed beamed thorough the nodal agency, Delhi College of Engineering.

"Once the system is streamlined, the facility would be extended to the polytechnics and public schools as well," DCE principal Dulal Goldar said.
