New Delhi: David Beckham's insurance policy has definitely pushed him head and shoulders above the competition among the richest footballers.

The Sun newspaper said that Bekham has reportedly insured himself for £100 million - the largest personal policy in the history of international sports. His new policy has eclipsed his earlier insurance policy by double the amount.

Beckham's deal lands him beside Hollywood celebrities like Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, who boast of a policy with similar figures.

His deal though, would only cover his on-field and his profession related illnesses and injuries. But if high-risk adventure sports like surfing or rock-climbing causes an injury, he will not be entitled for anything.

Beckham's staggering policy amount is spread over several insurance firms. He already had personal insurance cover, but the new version doubles the value of his previous liability, added the paper.

Bekham, 31, has had a spate of niggling injuries in the recent past, and his contract at Spanish giants Real Madrid expires at the end of the current season. His insurance policy is set to make him secure for all that and more.

Beckham remains the world’s highest-paid footballer in the world, raking in £15.5 million a year, even after his his annual income decreased by 10 per cent last year from £17.3 million.

His contracts with multinational giants like Adidas, Motorola, Pepsi and Gillette have over the years established him as the face of football. He also has his own designer label in collaboration with Britain's Marks and Spencer.
