The Karnataka Forest Department has received 1,94,007 applications for 310 vacant posts of forest watchers during its recent recruitment drive. This is despite the fact that the last recruitment was held just two years ago in 2022-23.
The qualifying educational criteria is Class 10 pass and a medical and physical examination. The government will give appointment letters to 267 selected candidates on Tuesday while 43 posts will remain vacant as the applications for these reserved categories haven’t been received.
Officials claim the number of applications is high since these are permanent jobs and not contract-based.
Congress’s chief whip Saleem Ahmed said the number of applications does not mean there is high joblessness in the state. “The applicants might be employed elsewhere and they are probably interested in taking up a job in the Forest Department. It is something seen across the country,” he said.
Recently, Karnataka managed to attract Foxconn to invest in the state. The iPhone maker is in the process of setting up a mobile phone assembly plant with a Rs 22,000 crore investment expected to create over 40,000 jobs.
In January this year, Karnataka had approved 73 major investment proposals worth over Rs 3,900 crore and said that it expected to generate 15,000 jobs in the state.
