IMA honours senior gynaecologist

KOCHI: The Doctor’s Day was observed in and around the city on Saturday. The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Kochi branch, honoured senior gynaecologist Dr Kalyani Devi and paediatrician K R Ravi Varma at a function held in the city. Dr John K Vettath delivered the keynote address. On the occasion, Excise Minister K Babu recently launched an anti-drug campaign at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences in Chalakka near Paravoor. Gurudeva Charitable Trust, Emirates, president K R Rajappan presided over the function. Dr B C Roy Award recipient D M Vasudevan delivered the Doctor’s Day message and Assistant Drug Controller Ravi S Menon delivered a speech on drug abuse. Trust vice-president K K Karnan distributed school uniforms among less-privileged students.  Trust manager D Jayakumar, principal M J John, medical superintendent P J Vincent, community medicine professor Raju Antony, manager (training) Ajithkumar, N Madhu, Anoop Wilson and Sasidharan spoke on the occasion. The day was celebrated elsewhere in Paravoor and Aluva also. The Doctor’s Day falls on July 1.  In Paravoor, IMA unit president C M Radhakrishnan inaugurated the celebrations. Senior doctors Sarada P Menon, K G Pavirhran and P C Suneethi have been honoured in the function.   Special memento for National Award winner Salim Kumar was accepted by his wife on his behalf. Doctors K G Gopinath and M D Raveendran spoke on the occasion.The Doctors’ Day in Aluva was inaugurated by Anwar Sadath MLA at IMA Hall. The initiative taken by IMA to run a blood bank and dialysis unit in the district hospital would be encouraged, Sadath said.
