New Delhi: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is looking to hire social media executives across 716 districts tasked to monitor local editions of newspapers, local cable channels, local audio channels (FM) and collect data on regional events, according to report by Exchange4Media, a media watchdog.
They have also been designated to monitor Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Internet forums and even email in order to analyze sentiment, identify "fake news," disseminate information on behalf of the government and inject news and social media posts with a "positive slant for India.
India has seen surge in active participation of cabinet ministers and party leaders on social media platforms. The tender comes with a motive to set a positive narrative ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls.
According to the details released by Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), key responsibilities of the social media executives include:
a) Collecting data on regional media and local events
b) Monitoring local editions of newspapers, local cable channels, local audio channels (FM) and important local social media handles for important local developments
c) Collating and analysing important local news with a focus on issues related to government
d) Sending daily analysis report incorporating local sentiment to ADG (Region) and Media Hub (command centre)
e) Check spread of fake and incorrect news
f) Carry out perception analysis on various events, initiatives, schemes etc. of government
