At a time when motorsport is struggling to gain prominence in India, two-time British truck racing champion Steve Horne strongly feels the first-ever heavy-vehicle racing event can become an annual feature and usher in a new era for the sport in the country.
"I know trucks are generally seen as goods carrier in India. But I see immense potential in the growth of truck racing here. It's just that truck manufacturers have to explore it. Racing is yet to catch their eye. That is why it was important for somebody to provide that lead. And I am sure this will continue in the future," said Horne.
Tata motor will be holding the maiden truck racing championship on Sunday at the Buddh International Circuit here.
"There are lot of heavy vehicle manufacturers who make their trucks in India. They can certainly come forward to be part of this concept in the near future."
On Sunday's event, Horne, who has played a key role putting up the show, said he is expecting a good response from the Indian audiences.
"It is new for everyone. To put up this event in a such a short duration has been a challenge. Let's see how things go tomorrow and how people receive it. It will be a unique experience for many," he said.
